What is a Laboratory Certified Diamond?
A Laboratory Certified Diamond is graded in an independent laboratory and returned to the store with a full report on the grading and identifying qualities of the diamond. When the lab receives the diamond, they measure and grade the stone based on a standardized scale. The most widely accepted scale for grading the identifying characteristics of a diamond is the “GIA Scale” for color and clarity.
At L.S. Jewelers, we use Global Gemological Labs to certify the majority of our loose diamonds. GGL is widely recognized as one of the world's premier scientific diamond grading laboratories. GGL provides diamond grading reports in addition to an appraised value for each gem.
While a “Lab Cert” can be an effective tool for comparison shopping, you should always trust your eyes to make the final decision when purchasing a diamond. How the diamond looks to you, both under magnification and to the unaided eye, is far more important than what any certification may say about the grade of a diamond.

What is an Irradiated Fancy Color Diamond?
When a diamond is chemically pure, it has no visible color. Chemically Pure or “Colorless” diamonds are very rare. The majority of diamonds gain some form of impurity during the crystallization process. During the birth of a diamond in nature, it can gain trace amounts of nitrogen, hydrogen or boron during the process. The resulting rough diamonds will appear yellow or brown in color when cut and polished. If the diamond contains enough of these foreign elements, it becomes a “fancy colored” diamond. Naturally occurring fancy colored diamonds are very rare, and therefor very expensive. However, the majority of diamonds contain just enough of the trace elements to tint the stone a yellow or brownish color. This is where the irradiation of diamonds comes in.
Irradiation is a treatment process by which a person in a laboratory finishes the job which nature only started. Our diamonds are colored using a process called ion (or neutron and electron) bombardment. Depending on the outcome of the bombardment process, some stones are further heated to temperatures as high as 1200 degrees Celsius to fully bring out the color. During the treatment process, in-between color diamonds transform into fancy vivid shades of yellow, blue, and green. (And very rarely, pink.) Depending on the color of the diamond before treatment, there is a great variance in the shades of the individual color hues of the irradiated diamonds.
The diamonds do not retain any radiation from the process. The change in color to the diamond is permanent. The result of this process is a beautiful fancy colored diamond, which can be purchased for a fraction of the price of a natural fancy color diamond.

Do You Offer a Layaway Program?
Yes, our layaway program is popular choice for guys who select their engagement ring with a little help from the bride to be, but want to keep the actual proposal date a surprise! No interest is charge on a layaway, and there are never any hidden fees.
It takes only 20% of the total purchase price to open a layaway and we require payment equaling at least 10% of the remaining balance every 30 days. We like to keep layaways to a maximum time period of 6 months, however, if your account is in good standing, arrangements can be made to extend the length of the layaway.
All refunds on layaways must be made within 60 days of the original purchase date. After 60 days on layaway, store credit will be issued on any refund.

Do you accept Jewelry Trade-In's?
We offer full value for any diamond purchased from L.S. Jewelers towards a larger diamond. We do not set limits, the only rule is that you must go up in total value of your jewelry. This policy applies only to the diamond itself. Any mounting is subject to wear, so it cannot be traded at full value. However, we do offer value for trade minus any work that may be required to repair a ring to like new status. If the jewelry is worn beyond a point where it can be reasonably restored, scrap value will be assessed and offered for a trade in value.
Jewelry not purchased from L.S. Jewelery is evaluated for trade in on a "per case" basis.

Do you size Class/Military Rings?
In most cases, the answer to this question is no. The best way to have your class ring sized is to send it back to the manufacturer. (Balfour or Artcarved are the two largest)

Do you do Watch Repairs?
Yes and No. Minor repairs such as changing watch batteries and sizing watch bracelets are done, in most cases, for customers while they wait. Any brand of watch that we do not carry must be worked upon at the customer's risk.
We refer our Major repairs for watches out of warranty (i.e. replacing the crystal or repairing the watch movement) to several different watch makers depending on the type of watch and the type of repair, for a referral to a watch maker.
